Incidence of labor dispute by province. According to China's official categorization, more developed provinces (the eastern region) include Beijing (BJ), Shanghai (SH), Tianjin (TJ), Jiangsu (JS), Zhejiang (ZJ), Guangdong (GD), Shangdong (SD), Fujian (FJ), Liaoning (LN), Hainan (HAN), and Hebei (HB). Developmentally intermediate provinces (the central region) include Hunan (HUN), Hubei (HUB), Henan (HN), Jilin (JL), Heilongjiang (HLJ), Jiangxi (JX), Shanxi (SX), and Anhui (AH). Least developed provinces (the western region) include Guangxi (GX), Shaanxi (SXX), Gansu (GS), Guizhou (GZ), Inner Mongolia (NMG), Xinjiang (XJ), Yunnan (YN), Ningxia (NX), Qinghai (QH), Sichuan (SC), Chongqing (CQ), and Tibet (XZ, omitted from the figure due to data unavailability).
